For me, as a gay man in homosexuality his 30’s, divorced with a teenage daughter, it hit me on many levels. In the courtroom where Alma’s divorce from Ennis is approved and she gets custody and he limited visitation, it struck me as all too familiar from my own divorce. The tears that welled homosexuality up in his eyes brought back memories of my own reaction to the loss of my family. The personalities of both Ennis and Jack are actually quite familiar in the gay community. Since my divorce, I have often met other men like myself that attempted the straight lifestyle because of societal or religious pressures only to have them fail because of this incredible need to love and be loved by other men, one other man.
