This movie, really pulls gay locker room boys same sex love out gay locker room boys of the ghetto and approaches presenting it as a more real non-campy thing gay locker room boys (not that campy isn’t real). I don’t find it apologetic. I think it’s kind of raw really, and I appreciated that to the degree that I was able to believe these two actors playing their relationship. I’m generally impressed by the open-mindedness I’m reading on most of these blogs where this movie is concerned, whether people love or hate the movie. | I’ve watched many gay themed films with many more overt and graphic sex scenes so I do understand how gay kiss thumbnails this film may come across as being apologetic and tame. But honestly, as a gay man raised in a very straight environment (mexican-american family in Texas) I can still gay kiss thumbnails see things through eyes that would rather not be subjected to even a moment of tenderness between two men, much less some frantic spit-lubed butts-sex, however gay kiss thumbnails obscured it may have appeared on screen. You still KNOW everything that’s happening. I think this “carefulness” is to Ang Lee’s credit and I would prefer to call it subtlety. I may be in the minority but I really loved the film’s concentration on the romantic love aspect of the relationship - I’ve seen plenty of gay cliches in small gay films and I like the idea that there’s a film trying to approach the subject without asking the audience to drop themselves into a Gay ghetto mindframe, which again puts distance between the straights and the gays, and alienates the in-betweens because they’d much rather be in the mainstream than be lumped with “stereotypical” aspects of more “organized” |
